Ministering to widows is one of those things I have done on a low scale level over the years but in year 2019 the lord directed me on a different route. During Covid, We couldn’t travel home due to lockdowns. When airlines finally opened up, I felt a desire in my heart to gather widows from the village I grew up in and bless them with Christmas gifts and a banquet in our home. I asked my parents to write down the names of needy widows and I was shocked to see the number of widows from a very small location . They first wrote 50 widows . Then I knew I had to look for a bigger venue due to COVID protocols . While preparing to go to Kenya, a bishop friend of mine invited me to to go speak in a conference in Kericho, Kenya. Little did I know till I inquired that he wanted me to go minister to the widows. This event was my first one and quite an eye opener for me about the needs of this population. Over 150 widows attended. A week later I got a venue and held my very first widows event in Nyeri where I come from. We served 130 widows including the homebound. Unfortunately my mother ( Margaret)who helped so much to prepare for the the nyeri event got hospitalized and could not attend. When I shared the pictures with her at the hospital bed, she sat up, thanked me for honoring the widows and charged me to do this every year. She passed on in the January 2022 and thereafter her words “ do this every year” kept ringing in my head. After seeking God about it, I decided to do this annually and also to register this organization in her honor. Within a few months, this foundation was registered as an NGO in Kenya under her name ( Margaret). Margaret James 1:27 Foundation vision is based on the mandate from James 1:27 “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” Since it’s initiation, over 600 widows have been ministered to with Christmas shopping and connected to local resources. The foundation was officially launched and dedicated in December 2022, by Bishop Mark Kariuki ( deliverance churches Kenya ), Bishop Jackson Kingori ( Neema Gospel Church USA) , Bishop Stanely Michuki ( President Pentecostal congress of churches Kenya ) and our host Rev Elijah Wanje( Ridgeways Baptist church ). us. The word of God concerning widows has been so real to witness in this ministry. • Psalm 68:5 tells us God is the “Defender of widows” • Psalm 146:9 says “God cares for the widows and orphans” • Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.
You can make a difference by supporting 1, 2 ,3 … widows in Kenya.
Before any widows event, we have volunteers who visit them in their homes, encourage and pray with them and also invite them for Gifting event.
